Intermediate: Developing Internationalism

This category is designed for schools that have more substantial curriculum-based international activities and have started to work with international partner school(s).

A school at the Intermediate level of the ISA framework is making significant progress with the realisation of the international dimension in the ethos and life of the school. Its overall strategic planning will already reflect the priority being given to the international dimension and it will be monitoring progress towards the objectives established in its international strategy.

To secure certification at the Intermediate level a school will need to satisfy itself that it has:

  • an international co-ordinator in post with an agreed job description linked to the implementation of its international strategy
  • reflected on progress with the implementation of its international strategy and its contribution to meeting the priorities established in its SIP
  • provided one or more staff development opportunities linked to the international dimension
  • completed study linked to the international dimension in three or more curriculum areas involving a number of pupils, staff and subject areas;
  • the impact of its international strategy and these studies on the knowledge, skills and attitudes of pupils has been thoroughly evaluated and can be seen to have delivered outcomes associated with the Children’s Plan (successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens).
