Foundation: Introducing Internationalism

This category is designed for schools that are just embarking on internationalism.
  • You assert an intent to build internationalism into the curriculum.
  • You utilise the online framework to record existing activities.
  • You get feedback from us to help you progress to intermediate level.
  • The Global Gateway team helps you to find suitable international partner schools.
Apply by registering your school for the ISA scheme and then completing the online application.
  • You can download applying for Foundation-step by step guidance. pdf 229KB
  •  If you would like to see what the online application process looks like, and even take it for a ‘test-run’, then click here.
  • You may wish to download some sample Foundation applications to give you an idea of how the Foundation application can look like.

  • A proforma statement of intent agreed with Headteacher and Chairperson of your governing body. The statement forms a part of the online application for the Foundation category.
  • You can download the statement of intent and print it for your own purposes. pdf 593KB
  • We would expect your school to start using the Global Gateway partner-finding service.

It is not necessary to submit any activities, although we are interested in what your school is doing, so you can fill these in.

You can apply anytime for the Foundation category. We will contact you within 2 weeks of receiving the application to advise of its progress.

Successful applicants will receive a certificate of achievement from the British Council.

Schools will be able to use the ISA Foundation logo.

Schools applying at this level are given recognition for international work already undertaken by the school. Therefore this is a retrospective look at the school's recent international work.
