Local authorities
From formal town twinning to business-based
international links, the participation of schools is of huge
potential benefit to a council's international strategy.
In the current climate, links that are fully embedded in
the local community and are multi-agency for both
partners are being welcomed. The DCSF Global Gateway can help to
engage and support schools in international links that meet your
objectives - and help ensure that you can access funding.
|
These Local Authority International Strategies all incorporate
a specific objective for school linking.
|
|
- Oxfordshire - the OIEB (the Oxford
International Education Bureau was launched by Oxfordshire County
Council and operates a subscription service and a pay-as-you-use
service for all schools in Oxfordshire)
- Peterborough
- Global Dimensions (Peterborough has showcased case studies
from six schools and invited them to provide mentoring on the DCSF
International School Award and international work in general)
-
Staffordshire International Links (Staffordshire has drawn
together support for funded programmes, area links with France and
Germany, and help with the DCSF International School Award into a
special section on the Staffordshire Education website - and
ensures continued interest through a programme of monthly
events)
- Sunderland
Schools (Through a committed and involved teacher at a
Sunderland school, web support and practical advice is given
separately from the local authority but with its approval and
buy-in)
|
| An objective for school linking can be tracked and progressed
through the International School Award. Birmingham, Cornwall,
Derbyshire, Haringey, Leeds, Plymouth Staffordshire are
just 7 of more than 60 authorities who use our free service to
keep abreast of schools' progress and accreditation with the
ISA.

| To find out who is working to support schools at local and
regional level, please look at our large and up-to-date contacts database
which is free to access and easy to use. |
| We have a representative in every region of the UK who can inform
you about events and support in your region. You can also join
UKGLAS, which includes
most of these reps and people who work with schools from a number
of networks and organisations. |
We work closely with the local authorities
